Away Games we meet at the visitors side near the band section 6:30 - 7 PM
Here are some tips and information to the new Pit Crew
- We help at all football games and marching competitions
- The Band has a designated group of students that are called the LOADING CREW. The Loading Crew will load instruments into the truck each time. We may assist.
- Wear your Blue Band Boosters T-shirt. If cool or cold wear it over another shirt.
- We will have ID tags for the Pit Crew members. Wear them on your shirt to all functions.
- Our primary job is to help move the Pit instruments
- From the truck to pre game practice position on the track (the students will show us where)
- At the middle of the 2nd quarter make your way to the pit instruments. You will be assigned an instrument to take to the half time performance. It will be confusing at times.
- The students will be in a frenzy as they have only a matter of two minutes to set up and prepare for their performance. We need to hurry SAFELY to help them set up.
- Once they are set - we move back up onto the track and sit down and become invisible until they finish.
- Upon completion of the performance - we help break down and quickly move the instruments back to the truck. The students have 2 minutes to clear the field for the other team.
At all games we set up on the Home Team side of the field for the performance.
At our home games we always meet at the track entrance nearest to the band section of the stands. This will be the southeast end of the NBHS field.
Away games - we meet where the buses unload and find the equipment truck. A Band Director will tell us where to move the equipment to. If you are also a bus Chaperone you must first get the students in your charge to their meeting places. Expect some interesting questions and problems to resolve. But that's part of the memories. You will quickly have your own set of war stories.
UIL Marching competitions - We usually travel with the band or meet them there. Same routine except alot of anxious moments followed by a mass scurrying of everyone. The big difference here is the kids are penalized if we do something wrong. Tag a veteran pit member and help them. They can give you what pointers you need. Main concern is being quiet and getting off the field ASAP. There are also designated places for boosters to stand during those performances. And be prepared!!!!! The whole band experience gets pretty emotional at the competitions. The kids and staff have put a tremendous amount of work into these programs. The kids get pretty disappointed if they do not win. We also help feeding the kids at these events, passing out drinks, carrying other band related things and most important, helping out back at the band hall upon completion.
We sometimes help unload the instruments back at the hall and help carry in the water coolers. The faster this is done - the faster we all go home.
